Community Living

Community Living Main Image

Living as a member of an intentional Christian community is a life-changing experience. Those who are bold enough to step into this environment understand that the sacrifices are overshadowed by great rewards: rich, authentic relationships, daily fellowship and support, and regular opportunities to apply the New Testament to daily life.

Believers who have given themselves to the practice of community living in Isla Vista grow in maturity, develop sincere love for the brethren, and learn to integrate a kingdom perspective into their daily lives. They go on to their future career, marriage and ministry with a deeper sense of what it means to live, love and serve as a member of Christ's body.

House

In addition to community living, the Del Playa or "DP” House provides a home base for weekend outreach and evangelism (e.g., Jesus Burgers). The house has become known to most of the city as either “The Jesus House” or the “Jesus Burgers House.” Its presence is a light in the community, offering neighbors, classmates, and partiers a place to find everything from food and a warm fire to friendship, prayer and an encounter with peers who know Godall in a non-threatening, non-religious environment.

The house has two apartments with three bedrooms each. It is located across the street from the beach and a beautiful park and a few blocks from downtown Isla Vista. The prayer shed is just behind the house with the study shed right next door.

The DP House began in 2002 with a vision to become a light to Isla Vista by establishing a permanent presence of believers on Del Playa Drive. The home served as a base for the Jesus Burgers outreach and prayer, as it does to this day. This incarnational approach to ministry represents a significant step of faith for the believers who had committed to pursuing God's Joshua 1:9 commission, a promise given to them for the city. Seven guys and seven girls moved into the home that first year, and since that time, dozens more have come and gone during their college years, living, praying, and witnessing to Christ's love on the most infamous party street in Isla Vista.
